You’ll need to work until the work is done, and that may mean longer hours during the greenfield phase of the project (the first two years or so). This could include an occasional evening or weekend. Once the plant is up and running we expect your schedule to move to more traditional hours for this function.

Pictured: Our global trend research has identified a number of key themes. With those themes in mind, EGGER developed a new décor program around nine identifiable interior styles. These diverse styles, ranging from Industrial to Modern Classics to Living Nature and more, provide design solutions for a wide array of tastes.

The Role

As the Financial Controller, you’ll be the head of our corporate accounting function, responsible for financial accounting, variances, and tax (this includes A/P, A/R, General Ledger, Asset Management, Tax, mid-year and year-end closing) for our industrial plant with over $350M in assets. We are currently in the greenfield phase of this project, so you’ll initially be involved in using EGGER best practices combined with your knowledge of U.S. accounting structures to set up the foundation of the department. Your key goal is to set up accounting systems and processes for our new North Carolina plant.

Beginning with an extensive 5-6 week training period, you’ll report to the project lead as well as an accounting mentor from our organization, though you’ll eventually report to the plant CFO once the final structure is set. You’ll also have a peer who is a Management Accountant to handle that side of the business. While you’ll do the hands-on accounting for now, over the next few years you’ll begin building up your team, which we expect to eventually be 2-4 people, to help you complete all necessary tasks. Quick question for you - click here

Some of your specific tasks in support of the above goals will be to:
  • Manage financial accounting reporting according to IFRS
  • Ensure completion of all accounting recognition activity (general ledger, asset management, A/P, A/R) in accordance with legal requirements
  • Build a standard payment cycle procedure, and manage A/R and A/P
  • Coordinate all businesses in the Accounting department and assist plant CFO
  • Build up best practice Accounting procedures in a Greenfield investment (with support of Group headquarters) in SAP, and supervise the implementation of accounting procedures using SAP
  • Record any documents affecting the company’s assets and operations in accordance with the legal provisions in force, in an accurate and timely way
  • Ensure chronological and systematic registration in the accounts of the supporting documents
  • Ensure the correctness of creditor invoices
  • Complete monthly reporting (keeping closing deadlines)
  • Prepare documentation for tax returns
  • Coordinate accounting procedures and be responsible for the closing balance sheet (conduct and analyze) for the annual financial statement
  • Recruit your accounting team during the project phase (together with local HR-team or headhunter), ensure the team has the appropriate professional qualifications, and implement measures to help your team improve their knowledge
In addition, some of your key initiatives will include:
  • Investment controlling (during the greenfield phase), including learning the business case behind investment
  • Building financial accounting plan for the plant
  • SAP system implementation, including ensuring the accounting hierarchy is set up correctly, working with the IT group to manage security, and posting to the system as needed
  • Acting as the main contact person for authorized accountants, tax advisers and tax authorities

What's in it for you?

Build a career home
You will expand your skills and experience in this role, setting the stage for you to grow right along with our North American business. We’ve enjoyed success in expanding across the globe and we expect to see strong growth in short order. The corporation is committed building the business in the U.S. and Canada -- and to supporting your career goals -- over the long haul.

Setting you up for success
We are committed to laying the foundation for a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship. We’ll start you with an intensive training and onboarding, including visiting corporate headquarters in Austria to meet colleagues and learn about our model. You’ll train on the EGGER standards and model, while bringing your expertise and knowledge of U.S. accounting to help us learn as well. You’ll also have an experienced mentor using a colleague-based style to work with you in Austria, and who will also travel to the U.S., to answer questions and help you create a vision for your role and for the function. Your total training time is expected to be 5-6 weeks, so you can be sure we’re just as invested in your success as you are.

Leadership through innovation
We have a very strong concept to bring to the market, backed by global market leadership that is clearly ahead of the competition. When others want to know where our industry is headed, they look to EGGER. We’re sharing this to assure you that this initiative has strong potential for long-range success.

Impact from the beginning
You’ll be one of the first team members to join us as we take on this exciting initiative. We have established a strong network of distributors, primarily large lumber yards, have product on the ground, and a new line of innovative products. You will play an essential role in setting up the framework for our corporate accounting function and play a key role in the financial organization of the company, allowing you to make an impact from the beginning.

Family culture
We are a family-owned business and a company that respects and values our employees. You will never be just a number here. At EGGER, every human being has relevance and makes a difference. We appreciate our employees and value their contributions.

Data-driven choices
Our products are carefully designed to reflect current demand and trends. For example, high fashion informs our furniture design, keeping us current and relevant. We do the research and understand the data, ensuring we’re always on the cutting edge of in-demand design trends.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive salary and bonus opportunity, we offer a benefits package including medical and other insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, and more.

Keys to Success

Though you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn about the business and industry, and enough challenges to keep you on your toes, this is not the place where you’ll learn the ropes in financial accounting. To excel in this role you’ll need to come in with a strong body of financial accounting, cost accounting, and tax knowledge pertaining to the U.S. market, as well as the ability to quickly find answers that will keep us compliant. And while you’ll eventually build up a team, for a while you’ll be the sole member of the financial accounting team in this facility, so you’ll also need to be a hands-on leader, ready to roll up your sleeves and get the work done from the very first day.

Our ideal candidate is flexible, and understands that in a project environment like this one things won’t be very well defined just yet. You’ll come in with the entrepreneurial spirit to drive your areas of the function, ask for what you need, but be willing to put in extra sweat equity until we’re up and running. We’re looking for someone who is in it for the long haul -- someone who wants to build the function, and build your career with the company.

If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity, then we want to hear from you!
